Meet Mark Generales 

A resident of the Lowcountry since 1994, Mark Generales joined Mortgage Network in 2003 after a 25-year professional career in the financial services industry throughout the United States and Canada. He has been responsible for marketing on the senior level, including the development and implementation of marketing strategies, sales management and training, development of marketing materials and new product introductions with such prestigious financial services firms as AXA/EDI, Oppenheimer Capital/Saratoga Capital, Midland Walwyn Capital, SEI Corporation, Kemper Securities Group, and EFHutton/Shearson Lehman. Mark still holds his brokers licenses and continues to provide professional investment management for individuals and institutions as a Financial Advisor with Melhado and Flynn in Bluffton.

Born and raised in La Jolla, California, Mark attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and joined the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman stationed at the Naval Hospital in Boston. After his discharge from the Navy, he began his business career as a licensed nursing home administrator in Massachusetts and ran facilities throughout the state until moving back to California in 1978 where he began his career in financial services with E.F. Hutton.

Mark and his wife Debbie moved to Lady’s Island in Beaufort in 1994. In 1999, he was elected to the Beaufort County Council and served in that capacity for eight years.  During that period he was the Chairman of the Finance Committee and the Information Technology Committee, and served on a number of other committees.

During his time on County Council, Mark authored the Critical Lands Bond Referendum that allows the County to buy and set aside critical lands, purchasing over 10,000 acres.  In addition, Council successfully gained voter approval to add another $50 million to the budget for land purchases and steered through major road projects culminating with additional lanes to US 278. He was also sponsor of an unincorporated County-wide non-smoking ordinance making Beaufort County is the first county in the state to have such a ban.

Mark also spearheaded the first county-wide marketing program ever created.  This program – now in its 5th year - has brought together the three area Chambers to work together to market the county in its entirety as a tourist destination.

Active with the Lady’s Island Business and Professionals Association, Mark is a member of the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce where he sits on the Legislative Affairs and the Tourism & Marketing Committees. He also sits on the Government Affairs Committee of the Hilton Head/Bluffton Chamber and is a member of the Bluffton sub-committee of the Greater Island Committee, as well as the Hilton Head Area Realtors Association, the Beaufort Realtors Association and the Hilton Head Home Builders Association.

An avid boater, Mark is a long time member of the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club and a former board member.

Mark and Debbie, who have been married since 1982, have three daughters: Olivia, a junior at University of Florida, Alexandra (Alex), a freshman at Clemson University and Christina, a junior at Beaufort, High School.  An avid sports fan, Mark also enjoys cheering on his daughters’ college teams.
